In the past 10 years, the output value of the world's materials industry has grown at a rate of about 30% per year. New chemical materials, microelectronics, optoelectronics, and new energy have become the most active, fastest-growing, and most innovative materials for investors. Innovation has become one of the important driving forces for the advancement of human civilization, and it has also promoted the development of technology and the upgrading of industry.
As a major component of the new materials industry, new chemical materials are a new field with more vitality and development potential in the chemical industry. As a new chemical material, modified plastics have expanded rapidly in recent years. A certain scale of development, but still not fully meet the domestic market demand, the future of China's modified plastics industry still has a large room for development.
Plastic industry
Modified plastics are intermediate products in the petrochemical industry chain. They are mainly processed from five general-purpose plastics PE, PP, PVC, PS, aBS and five engineering plastics PC, Pa, PET or PBT, PPO and POM. Flame retardant, impact resistant, high toughness, easy to process and so on.
Modified plastics are a typical technological advancement and consumer upgrade benefiting industry. The largest downstream consumption of modified plastics is in the household appliance industry and the automotive industry. The combined consumption of the two accounts for more than 50% of the total consumption capacity of modified plastics. According to statistics, the average use of modified plastics in color TV sets, air conditioners, refrigerators and washing machines is between 1.5kg and 2.5kg.
As the global production capacity of home appliances, computers, power tools and toys accelerates to China, China is gradually becoming the largest potential market for global modified plastics and the main demand growth driver.
After more than 20 years of development, China's modified plastics industry has formed a production capacity of millions of tons of filled masterbatch, various functional masterbatch and modified special plastics. It has become an important force in the strength of China's plastics industry, and is academically Technology and industry have become one of the most active and promising fields, and have made outstanding contributions to the sustained and rapid development of China's plastics industry and the development of the entire national economy.
Prospective Industry Research Institute's "2011-2015 China's modified plastics industry production and marketing demand and investment forecast analysis report 2012 edition" shows: In recent years, China's modified plastics industry continues to maintain rapid development with the development of the national economy, modification Plastic production also increased from 320,000 tons in 2000 to 3.4 million tons in 2008, with a compound annual growth rate of 34.37%. Apparent consumption increased from 720,000 tons in 2000 to 3.92 million tons in 2008. The rate is 23.59%. By 2011, China's production of modified plastics is about 7.5 million tons, and it is expected to reach 8.53 million tons in 2012.
According to the statistics of the National Bureau of Statistics, as of the end of 2011, the number of enterprises above designated size in China's modified plastics industry reached 290, achieving sales revenue of 77.919 billion yuan, an increase of 27.52%; total industrial output value of 79.204 billion yuan, an increase of 29.35%. The sales profit was 8.764 billion yuan, up 34.47% year-on-year; the profit was 4.411 billion yuan, up 32.50% year-on-year. Overall, in 2011, the scale of production and sales of the modified plastics industry expanded and the operating conditions were better.
In recent years, China's modified plastics industry has developed rapidly, with an average annual increase in output and apparent consumption of 20% and 15% respectively. At present, the total annual demand for modified plastics in China is about 5 million tons, accounting for about 10% of all plastic consumption, but still far below the world average of 20%. In addition, there is still a big gap between China's per capita plastic consumption and the developed countries in the world. As an indicator to measure the development level of a country's plastics industry, the ratio of plastics to steel is only 30:70 in China, which is less than the world average of 50:50, and less than 70:30 in the developed countries such as the United States and 63:37 in Germany.
Xiang Jun, a researcher in the modified plastics industry of the Prospective Industry Research Institute, believes that with the substantial improvement of people's living standards and the advancement of technical means, domestic “to replace steel with plastic†and “to replace wood with plastic†will become a trend. With the rapid development of China's home appliances to the countryside, trade-in and automobile industry, it is expected that the total market demand will maintain a growth rate of more than 10% in the next five years.
Breaking the power of foreign capital is imminent
With the development of China's economy and society, China's modified plastics market capacity will continue to grow rapidly, but China's enterprises start late, the technology level is low, the market share is insufficient, and the domestic market share of 70%-80% is in the hands of multinational enterprises. The self-sufficiency rate is relatively low, currently only about 31%, and a large number of modified plastics, especially high-end plastics, still need to be imported from abroad.
According to the analysis data of the Data Monitoring Center of the Prospective Industry Research Institute, as of the end of 2011, there are 70 enterprises with a production capacity of more than 3,000 tons of modified plastics in China, with a total capacity of about 1.68 million tons. In terms of quantity, 76.24% are domestic enterprises. Foreign capital or joint ventures accounted for 23.76%. From the perspective of production capacity, domestic enterprises accounted for 73%, and foreign or joint ventures accounted for 27%.
However, as a whole, due to the late start of China's modified plastics industry, the domestic market is mainly controlled by joint ventures with foreign-controlled holdings of multinational companies. At present, foreign large enterprises that have established modified plastic production bases in China include American GE, DuPont, Hanna, Dow, BaSF, Hearst, Asahi Kasei, Dakoon, and Samsung. Company, LG Company, Kumho Company, Netherlands DSM Company, etc.
At the same time, due to the late start of China's modified plastics industry and insufficient research and development capabilities, the lack of core technology and the backwardness of processing equipment have become increasingly prominent.
In terms of the annual output of plastic materials and products, China has ranked second in the world, but if we look at the technological level of plastic products and independent intellectual property rights, China is far from being a plastic power. This is manifested in the following three aspects:
First, many products are still produced by foreign imported equipment and using foreign intellectual property. The self-sufficiency rate of domestic high-performance synthetic resin is less than 50%, and the self-sufficiency rate of high-performance modified engineering plastics is lower. Most of them need to be from abroad. import;
Second, there is a big gap between China's plastic processing equipment and developed countries. For example, a 75 mm diameter co-rotating twin-screw extruder is used. The production capacity of the same set of equipment abroad is 2-3 times that of domestic equipment. And the effect of mixing is better than domestic equipment;
Thirdly, as the core of the functional modification technology of modified plastics, the development of processing aid formulations, the various types of plastic additives in developed countries are complete and specific, and currently only a few manufacturers in China can only produce A versatile variety. All of the above conditions have seriously restricted the development of China's modified plastics industry.
From the current situation, the original formula of the general-purpose large variety of modified plastics is basically in the open state of the market, while the formula of high-performance professional modified plastics is in the hands of leading companies in various segments and is closely protected. For example, DuPont and Alfina have most of the existing modified formulations on modified PE and modified PS products.
In addition, due to the scattered production capacity of China's modified plastics industry and the majority of small and medium-sized enterprises with weaker strength, the disorderly competition in the market has also led to structural overcapacity, a large number of low-end and mid-range products are over-extended, and the technology is high and added value. High products are obviously insufficient to be imported from abroad, and the phenomenon of unreasonable product structure is more serious.
China's "12th Five-Year Plan for New Materials" proposes that by 2015, China's new chemical materials and additives, processing machinery and mold manufacturing will form a system with an output value of 260 billion. By then, the new chemical materials will meet the rate of 65%.
In this regard, Xiangjun Industrial Research Institute modified plastics industry researcher Xiang Jun pointed out that China's modified plastics industry should seize the opportunity to increase research and development efforts in new materials such as modified plastics, strengthen the development of modified technology formulations, and actively Promote the adjustment and upgrading of industrial structure and effectively enhance the market competitiveness of the industry.
